Description

The Department of Modern Languages and Cultures at Baylor University seeks a dynamic colleague to provide instruction in Portuguese language, literatures, and cultures as a Lecturer in the Division of Spanish and Portuguese beginning August 2026. This position will also require teaching some Spanish language courses. This appointment is a renewable full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure-track, teaching-focused position with a 6-year promotion path to Senior Lecturer for successful candidates and a potential promotion path to Teaching Professor for highly successful candidates.

Qualifications

  • M.A. in Portuguese, Spanish or related field is required.
  • Ph.D. with a concentration in Brazilian or Luso-Brazilian literatures and cultures is preferred.
  • Area of specialization is open, with preference for areas that complement our existing strengths.
  • Ability to teach in Portuguese and Spanish is required.
  • Native or near-native fluency in Portuguese, Spanish, and English is required.
  • Ability to contribute to curriculum development for the Division’s Portuguese program strongly desired.

The successful candidate will also be able to demonstrate experience in one or more of the following:

·       Innovative, student-centered approaches to teaching language and cultures in Portuguese and/or Spanish

·       Extra-curricular pedagogical experience (e.g., undergraduate mentoring, study abroad, activities outside the classroom)

·       Interdisciplinary approaches to pedagogy and/or program development
