Job Description
- Instruct students at Circleville Juvenile Correctional Facility (CJCF) in Physical Education & Health programs: provides services, which implement the DYS educational mission; analyzes records to identify student’s immediate & long-range needs (e.g., utilizes student analysis results & approved course of study to develop lesson plans for assignments & activities which meet identified student’s needs); provides individualized instruction & assistance; administers, scores & interprets examination & proficiency indicators; counsels students concerning their performance, behavior &/or personal problems.

Conducts on-going assessment of student progress to update records of student’s needs & corresponding instructional & training programs: counsels student regarding academic & behavioral progress; documents student progress (e.g., maintains student’s performance reports for use in planning institutional, transitional & community services for youth); participates in institutional treatment activities.

Cares for & maintains all classroom equipment & learning aides: prepares budgetary proposals, researches, selects, recommends & requisitions for new educational resources (e.g., textbooks, learning aides); maintains necessary inventories & orders supplies & material needed; prepares & maintains required records (e.g., enrollment figures, grades, student progress) & submits reports as required (e.g., attendance, grades, discipline).

Attends a variety of meetings (e.g., in-service training, treatment teams, student interviews) & maintains professional growth through participation in meetings, workshops & formal education programs.
DYS Teachers can earn from $63,856 - $108,492 depending on education and experience (includes additional 20% supplement)
Small class sizes (6-8 students)
Students are an average of 16-18 years old
Comprehensive paid training will be provided to the selected candidate
Intersession leave – 40 days off per year; 186 student days
Additional personal and sick leave
No study hall/lunch supervisory responsibilities

Qualifications
Current Teacher Certificate appropriate for physical education & health & grade level to be assigned; (9-12) Teacher 1, 71261, must also have baccalaureate degree or less;

BACKGROUND CHECK NOTICE: The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening. PRE-SERVICE TRAINING: All final candidates are required to attend 3 weeks of mandatory, paid training at the Correctional Training Academy in Orient, Ohio. Training takes place for 3 weeks, Monday through Thursday, 7AM to 5PM with Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays off.
