Job Description 

Our Housepersons play a hands-on role in bringing events to life at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Reporting to the Event Services Supervisor, this position is responsible for setting up, maintaining, and clearing event spaces in alignment with client specifications. From corporate meetings to large-scale conventions, Housepersons help ensure every room is event-ready — supporting the seamless, high-quality experiences our clients and guests have come to expect. 

General Duties Include: 

  • Room set-up;  
    • Setting up and taking down furniture such as tables and chairs, and heavy equipment such as staging and dance floors in various configurations for meetings and events. 
    • Reference floorplans and directions from Event Services supervisors to complete room setup 
    • Adjust wall dividers in room as required. 
  • Water service;  
    • Setting up table for water, delivering water and glasses/cups.  
    • Refreshing water, straightening chairs, and cleaning up garbage from room throughout the event. 
  • Clean-up;  
    • Taking down equipment after event or changing set up of a room if another event is occurring in the same location.  
    • Vacuuming carpeted rooms between events.  
    • Report needed repairs of unsafe equipment and/or meeting space  
    • Follow all safety and sanitation policies  
    • Offer professional, friendly and engaging service. 
    • Equipment usage; Storage carts for chairs and table, dollies, two motor for carts of equipment, battery powered vacuums.  

Job Skills and Requirements: 

  • Minimum one-year experience in a similar work environment. 
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements such as kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying of heavy loads (up to 50lbs). 
  • Constant standing and walking throughout shift from one building to another. 
  • Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs, and ramps.  
  • Previous experience in a similar environment dealing with large functions/shows is desirable, as is training in proper lifting techniques and forklift operation 
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Strong team-building skills to effectively work in a collaborative work environment.  
  • Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times  
  • This is a casual hourly position including evening and midnight shifts during weekdays and weekends. 
  • Successful applicant must have their own safety shoes
