Role Overview

Coupang is seeking a dynamic and strategic Director of Strategic Partnerships to lead its U.S. government engagement and trade development initiatives. This Washington, DC-based role will be instrumental in shaping and advancing Coupang’s policy and business development agenda with U.S. state and federal stakeholders to promote exports to Korea and Taiwan.

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned trade and policy strategist with a strong network across U.S. government agencies, trade associations, and industry stakeholders. This role will also serve as a key spokesperson for Coupang Global Services at trade conferences and public forums.

What You Will Do

  • Government Relations & Policy Advocacy
    • Develop and execute strategies to engage U.S. federal and state lawmakers, trade agencies, and policy influencers to support export growth to Korea and Taiwan.
    • Advocate for trade policies and initiatives that enhance market access for U.S. businesses through Coupang.
    • Monitor and influence legislative and regulatory developments relevant to international trade and e-commerce.
  • Strategic Partnerships & Business Development
    • Identify and cultivate partnerships with U.S. companies, trade associations, and economic development organizations to expand Coupang’s exporter base.
    • Collaborate with internal teams to align partnership strategies with Coupang’s marketplace goals in Korea and Taiwan.
  • Public Engagement & Thought Leadership
    • Represent Coupang at trade conferences, policy roundtables, and public forums to promote CGS’s mission and capabilities.
    • Develop and deliver compelling messaging and presentations that position Coupang as a key enabler of U.S. exports to Asia.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in international trade promotion, public-private partnerships, or government affairs.
  • Deep understanding of U.S. trade policy, export promotion programs, and economic development strategies.
  • Strong relationships with U.S. Department of Commerce, USTR, SBA, and congressional trade committees.
  • Exceptional communication and public speaking skills; experience representing organizations at high-profile events.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate policy into actionable business opportunities.
  • Collaborative, diplomatic, and entrepreneurial mindset.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in trade policy, government relations, or international business development.
  • Experience working with or within U.S. government trade agencies (e.g., ITA, TPCC, USTR).
  • Familiarity with e-commerce, logistics, or digital marketplaces.
  • Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Public Policy, Business, or related field; advanced degree preferred.

Pay & Benefits

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. At Coupang, your base pay is one part of your total compensation.

The base pay for this position ranges from $137,000/year in our lowest geographic market to $254,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
