ERS is seeking a Portfolio Manager to perform complex (journey-level) hedge fund investment asset management work, and oversees special projects within the Hedge Fund unit of the Investments Division. Supports the Managing Director of Credit & Hedge Funds and the Director of Hedge Funds in essential tasks.  Works closely with the Director of Hedge Funds on all aspects of portfolio construction, risk management, and strategic direction of hedge fund portfolios. Investment work will include sourcing, strategy and risk analysis, due diligence, and recommendation(s) of hedge funds and similar investments that can meet long-term portfolio requirements and returns commensurate with board approved risk parameters. Work will be performed under general supervision of the Director of Hedge Funds with moderate latitude for self-initiative and independent judgment.

Essential Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Contribute on all aspects of portfolio construction and risk management including support in essential tasks and functions, as it relates to the ERS Hedge Funds Program.
  • Negotiate and review, under supervision of the Director of Hedge Funds, investment partnership agreements with prospective hedge fund investments, amendments to current agreements, as well as notice and delivery of redemption notices.
  • Communicate directly with hedge fund managers and their senior investment staff to assess strategy strengths, weaknesses and opportunities.
  • Communicate strategy and investment recommendations through written and/or oral reports and presentations.
  • Provide feedback and guidance to other hedge fund staff regarding strategy and manager research, due diligence, and strategic portfolio direction.
  • Support management of hedge fund investments using knowledge of advanced multi-factor analytics/models, hedge fund portfolio design, construction, strategies, allocation, implementation and monitoring. 
  • Maintain documentation and analysis supporting investment recommendations.
  • Maintain and report on risk management oversight of hedge fund investments.
  • Maintain information databases and portfolio management systems.
  • Attend work regularly in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
  • Comply with ethics standards and restrictions on personal investment activities set forth in the ERS Investment Policy.
  • Comply with all applicable agency policies and procedures, including safety and standards of conduct.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Your application for employment must reflect how you meet each of the following minimum qualifications:

1.     Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in finance, business administration, economics, or a related field.   Each year of qualifying experience over the required may be substituted for one year (30 semester hours) of required college credit.

2.     Two (2) years of experience of relevant hedge fund or fund of hedge fund experience.

3.     Two (2) years of experience with hedge fund portfolio design, construction, due diligence, allocation, implementation and monitoring, including considerable familiarity of risk management.

4.     Two (2) years of experience using Bloomberg, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, various statistical programs.

5.     Two (2) years of experience with basic statistical methods/software and its use in return based analysis.

6.     Two (2) years of experience applying risk analytics and/or multi-factor models to guide portfolio decisions in a hedge fund or similar investment environment.

Preferred Qualifications: Your application for employment should reflect how you meet the following preferred qualifications:

7.     Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation or current participation in the CFA program.

8.     Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation or current participation in the CAIA program.
