Job Summary

The Head of Operations will be responsible for leading and managing all operational aspects of our FinTech-Microfinance hybrid model. The ideal candidate must have a strong background in microfinance operations, digital financial services, and regulatory compliance. This role requires a hands-on leader with deep operational expertise across credit, deposits, customer onboarding, risk management, and digital transformation in the microfinance space.


Key Responsibilities

Microfinance Banking Operations

  • Oversee day-to-day microfinance operations including group lending, individual lending, savings mobilization, and loan recovery processes.

  • Design and implement scalable credit processes for both traditional and digital lending products.

  • Ensure proper documentation, appraisal, disbursement, and recovery of micro-loans in compliance with regulatory standards.

  • Lead operational policies for branch and agent network management, loan officers, and credit committees.

  • Monitor portfolio quality (PAR, NPL ratios) and implement early warning systems and recovery strategies.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure full compliance with Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), NDIC, and other regulatory authorities.

  • Supervise the KYC, AML/CFT, and customer due diligence processes across all channels.

  • Develop and implement internal control systems and risk mitigation strategies.

  • Oversee audits and inspections, and implement recommendations promptly.


Requirements

Digital Operations (FinTech Integration)

  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to automate lending, savings, and repayment workflows.

  • Drive technology adoption across microfinance operations including digital loan origination, credit scoring, and mobile wallet integrations.

  • Manage onboarding, transaction monitoring, and support systems across web and mobile platforms.

Customer & Field Operations

  • Supervise field staff, agents, and branches to ensure standardized service delivery and target achievement.

  • Lead customer operations, ensuring timely support, customer satisfaction, and operational SLA adherence.

  • Implement client education and financial literacy programs for underserved communities.

Strategic Leadership & Execution

  • Translate business strategy into operational goals, processes, and performance metrics.

  • Drive operational excellence through business process reengineering and capacity building.

  • Serve as a key liaison with regulatory agencies, investors, and other external stakeholders on operational matters.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Banking & Finance, Business Administration, or related field; MBA or relevant Master’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in Microfinance Banking, with at least 4 years in a senior leadership position.

  • Proven track record in managing credit operations, deposit mobilization, loan recovery, and regulatory reporting.

  • Experience in integrating core banking systems with digital channels (USSD, mobile apps, agent banking).

  • Strong knowledge of CBN microfinance guidelines, risk management frameworks, and audit processes.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead hybrid operations teams (tech + traditional microfinance).

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Analytical and data-driven decision-making skills, with proficiency in tools like Excel, Power BI, or similar.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in launching and scaling a microfinance bank or MFB unit.

  • Background in credit risk modeling and digital credit scoring systems.

  • Familiarity with MIS tools, LOS (Loan Origination Systems), and mobile money platforms.

  • Certification in Microfinance Management, Risk, or Compliance is an added advantage.
