Savannah River National Laboratory’s Environmental and Legacy Management (ELM) directorate is seeking an experienced Environmental Engineer/Geochemist to join their Environmental Sciences and Dosimetry team. This role is focused on leading and applying geochemistry, geological and/or environmental engineering principles to deliver solutions in support of the Department of Energy (DOE) Environmental Management (EM) mission.

 

This position involves the development of solutions for technically, challenging environmental concerns of DOE’s complex soil and groundwater issues within the regulatory framework. The focus is developing technical strategies to facilitate closure, address emerging contaminants and conduct research on diverse, environmental challenges. Includes working with a technical team to implement new technologies and expedite project completion, mentoring early-career staff, cultivating team interactions, and establishing customer interface with personnel from SRS and DOE.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • MS +12-15 yrs; PhD +2-5 yrs
  • Degree in one of the following: geochemistry, environmental science or engineering, geology, hydrogeology, soil science/chemistry, chemical engineering, or related earth/aquatic sciences field.
  • Experience and/or knowledge in one or more of the following: environmental remediation, aqueous geochemistry, soil chemistry, contaminant fate & transport, and redox chemistry.
  • Perform laboratory and field studies.
  • Ability to obtain a DOE Security Clearance for which U.S. Citizenship is legally required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD +6-10 yrs performing environmental remediation relative to contaminants like organics, metals and radionuclides. 
  • Experience working with/for the U.S. DOE, National Laboratories, other gov't agencies and/or federal contractors. 
  • Strong written/oral communication skills w/ a history of technical reports and publications.
  • Demonstrated success in leading technical teams and project management.
