We have an exciting opportunity to join the Insurance and Asset Management Product team as a Software Engineer. Here we create and maintain applications for the bank in various technologies using online applications (APIS, Microservices) and also have processes in Spark/Scala in Hadoop and some other legacy components in mainframe.

You’ll provide technical analysis and coding skills in JAVA (Springboot), mainly for APIS and MSs on all aspects of business change and on-going projects and will also take the ownership of an existing JAVA application.

You’ll manage the E2E from software design and development to release, to final customer, including testing and deployment, so will be involved in the design discussions in order to get the most appropriate solution, which then will help to gain functional knowledge and experience in the Insurance domain for the application maintenance.

The difference you’ll make:

  • Managing activities relating to software creation, maintenance, deployment end to end from analysis and development to release, to production
  • Delivering technical solutions with a holistic view of all project deliverables and participating in discussions with the team and architecture function
  • Reporting on project progress, identifying risks and potential bottlenecks and recommending appropriate actions to mitigate them
  • Providing high quality IT deliverables satisfying customer requirements
  • Ensuring the software adheres to the bank’s principles regarding methodology, design, technology, security and good practises
  • Analysing existing software and solutions to be able to take ownership of existing applications within our domain

What you’ll bring:

  • Previous experience as a Software Engineer with JAVA (Springboot) extensive knowledge
  • Ability to analyse and understand existing software to in order to take ownership of it
  • Good programming skills following design and security principles
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills with the ability to work in projects with a team

It would also be nice for you to have:

  • Experience of working with Javascript and Websphere
  • Knowledge of UK Insurance products
  • Networking knowledge
  • Security knowledge (applied to software design and development)

This is a permanent role to be based in Milton Keynes and current expectation is at least 2 days in an office every week.

1st Stage – A 30 min technical interview with one of the team

2nd Stage – A 60 min formal interview covering a range of competency and technical questions. This can be done face to face or virtually depending on your situation.
