The Senior Patient Financial Services (PFS) Manager at Metro Vein Centers is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the PFS team, ensuring that all financial transactions related to billing, claim adjudication, payment posting, and patient balances are processed efficiently and in compliance with MVC guidelines & payor requirements. This role requires a hands-on leader to manage and support both MVC PFS team members and offshore partner teams in the effective resolution of outstanding insurance and patient balances. The Senior Patient Financial Services (PFS) Manager will collaborate with senior leadership across the MVC Organization to drive continuous improvement efforts in PFS processes, focusing on reducing days in AR, minimizing denials, and enhancing overall operational efficiency.
Essential functions
- Directly supervise and mentor a team of 10 - 12 RCM Specialists as well as 2 supervisors, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.
- Participate as a member of the Denial Management team to monitor trends in denial inflow and recoveries. To Identify opportunities for process improvements and/or training needs.
- Manage and resolve complex or escalated AR issues, including denials, underpayments, and patient billing discrepancies.
- Establish and maintain SOPs based on department workflows, payor requirements, and revenue cycle best practices.
- Track team performance against KPIs, including AR aging, account resolution, denial recovery, productivity, and quality.Responsible for managing the training of all new hires as well as continuing education/training for current team members.
- Coordinate staffing and workload distribution to ensure appropriate coverage and timely account resolution.Participate in the interviewing and selection process for new team members.
- Conduct regular audits of MVC team members & Offshore team to ensure best practices are being followed.
- Special projects as assigned by Senior RCM leadership
Competencies
- Leadership: Ability to inspire and lead a team while maintaining a high standard of performance.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to assess AR data, identify issues, and implement improvements to optimize the revenue cycle. Ability to manipulate data within business tools (Google Sheets, Excel, etc.)
- Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with other teams, including RCM departments, Finance, Patient intake, clinic operations, etc.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to maintain accuracy in managing claims and accounts.
- Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and work independently to meet deadlines and departmental goals.
- Customer Service: High level of professionalism and communication when interacting with patients and insurance companies.
Required education and experience
- 5+ years of healthcare billing experience including managing denials, rejections, and/or patient balances in a multi facility setting.
- 3+ years prior Mgt experience in a CBO setting
- Experience with AR management systems and reporting tools (e.g., Athena, Epic, Cerner, Meditech, or other healthcare platforms).
Preferred education and experience
- Experience with Athena Practice (aka Centricity, Athena)
- Experience working with RCM vendors: onshore or offshore
