The Director, Component Shops provides leadership for the Tulsa Base Maintenance Component Repair Organization (CRO) and oversees warranty recovery performance across shop operations. This role is responsible for safe, compliant, and efficient maintenance operations; continuous improvement initiatives; and managing supplier warranty claims, RMAs, and recovery processes.

What you'll do

  • Lead a large Base Maintenance CRO workforce, including leaders and frontline team members.
  • Oversee manpower, equipment, facilities, and budgets for maximum safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with FAA, OSHA, DOT, and AA policies and procedures.
  • Serves as the account Manager for AA’s FAR Part 145 Certificate.
  • Partner with Line Maintenance, Engineering, Planning, Materials, Supply Chain, and Routing to meet operational goals.
  • Support procedural changes, training, and mandatory maintenance requirements.
  • Monitor manpower needs, workload scheduling, and alignment with Tech Ops Planning.
  • Ensure accurate performance data is collected and used for analysis and decision‑making.
  • Drive continuous improvement to increase efficiency, reduce cost, and improve team member experience.
  • Oversee warranty claim processes for Base Maintenance CRO shops.
  • Validate and submit claims, resolve supplier disputes, and track recovery performance.
  • Manage RMA processing, coordination of part returns, and QPA/SAD resolution.
  • Collaborate with Engineering to identify eligible Service Bulletins.
  • Reconcile monthly recoveries and produce warranty performance reports.
  • Use AA systems (AEX, IMS, SAP, Cognos, SMAARTS, Excel, GPM, AA Manuals).
  • Access supplier systems (Honeywell, Boeing, Goodrich, Zodiac).
  • Maintain organized documentation and warranty files.
  • Maintain strong communication with union leadership and cross‑functional groups.
  • Mentor leaders of the CRO organization.
  • Support a culture of inclusion, collaboration, and development.

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation, Business, Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent experience (Business, Finance, Aeronautics, or Planning)
  • 7 years of leadership experience in Base Maintenance or related function
  • 7 years of experience managing a unionized frontline workgroup
  • In-depth knowledge of the airline industry and technical operations, American Airlines (AA) business strategy, company policies and procedures, and collective bargaining agreements

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid FAA A&P License preferred
  • Demonstrates the highest standards of ethics and integrity
  • Extensive experience implementing procedures and ensuring consistent service delivery
  • Ability to influence others through outstanding interpersonal skills, collaboration, and negotiation skills, as well as ability to advocate and manage change
  • Ability to be an action-oriented and results-driven leader, with a natural aptitude for engaging employees across multiple workgroups
  • Ability to think strategically, negotiate skillfully, digest complex details, and use sound judgment and initiative in making decisions
  • Ability to identify opportunities for improvement, as well as proven success implementing strategic initiatives under time constraints

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with ability to handle complex topics comfortably and to interact effectively with all levels, both verbally and written
  • Excellent project planning and organizational skills, with ability to effectively and simultaneously manage multiple large projects within tight deadlines while maintaining attention to detail
  • Ability to productively and proactively adjust to dynamic situations
  • Ability to work a varied schedule, including different shifts and weekends
  • Ability to travel, as needed
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
