The Finance Manager is responsible for day-to-day financial control and accounting, ensuring the highest standards are maintained across the company’s US activities. The position plays a pivotal role in managing the overall smooth and accurate running of financial systems and routines. Working closely with the US finance and the central finance team in the UK, this role offers a great opportunity to develop expertise in all aspects of finance and accounting management, including P&L, operations, forecasting, and accounting. The ideal candidate will be an experienced Finance Business Partner who delivers accurate, timely, and value-added operational support, and is a proactive self-starter capable of working independently.

Annual Salary: $110,000-140,000

Key Responsibilities

  • Execution of month-end, planning, and forecasting processes, including journal entries, bank and account reconciliations, and inter-company transactions.
  • Maintain accountability for proper forecasting, accounting, and recording of transactions consistent with company policies and GAAP.
  • Oversight of transaction processing, including AP (Invoices & T&E), AR (billing & collections), cash management, and general ledger maintenance, supported by and in partnership with HQ finance (UK).
  • Support Director of Finance and SVP in creating accurate and thoughtful financial forecasts and supporting analysis for executive communication.
  • Review and account for semi-monthly payroll.
  • Assist the Director of Finance with the Annual Audit.
  • Assist Director of Finance with  month-end close and reforecasts.
  • Conduct accurate and insightful variance analyses of results vs. budget and prior year periods. 
  • Assist the Director of Finance with month-end financial reporting package, including visual reports and slide decks, for executive communication.
     

Required skills
 

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. 
  • 5+ years of progressive Accounting/Finance experience required, including exposure to journal entries and executive reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of Finance and Accounting principles, including financial modeling, budgets and profitability analysis, variance analysis, and financial statements/reporting.
  • Takes initiative to add value beyond initial requests by anticipating future questions/follow-up requests and proactively resolving them.
  • Expert proficiency with business and financial systems and applications - Microsoft Office (specifically advanced Excel), Google Suite, Hyperion, Oracle - and demonstrated ability to leverage them to drive efficiencies. 
  • Outstanding judgment, analytical, and critical thinking skills. 
  • Highest level of integrity and personal accountability.
  • Works independently and functions well under pressure, consistently paying attention to accuracy and quality of work.

     

  • Experience working in the news, publishing, or media industries is desirable. 
  • Experience working in a global organization with matrix structures is a plus.
