Department: Security
Shift/schedule: Full Time (40 hrs/wk), Friday-Monday 5pm-3:30am
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Security Officer works under the supervision of the Security Manager, and such other supervisors as designated by the Security Manager, to protect Medical Center property and ensure the safety of patients, visitors and employees by patrolling the buildings and grounds to prevent losses due to accidents and incidents and performing other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
• High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required
• Basic Police training or Private Security Officer training from the Ohio Peace Officer Training Council or an equivalent program of specialized training preferred
Licensure:
• BMVL required (Must maintain eligibility to drive as determined by SOMC's insurance carriers)
• Must be certified in Taser within 180 days of employment. Taser certification requires training in Self-Defense, Crisis Intervention, and De-Escalation techniques.
• BLS within 90 days of hire required
Experience:
• One year of security, law-enforcement, or corrections experience preferred
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
1. Patrol of all hospital property and facilities on foot and in a vehicle to check for unsafe conditions, criminal activity and violations of hospital policies and procedures.
2. Respond to alarm activations, emergency call box activations, radio dispatched calls, and personal and telephone requests for assistance and observed incidents.
3. Perform other security related duties and assignments, such as: locking/unlocking doors; accepting, storing and returning patient valuables; providing money escorts, and safety escorts for employees, visitors and patients, and other duties related to the security mission as assigned.
4. Respond to and investigate criminal offenses and incidents that occur on hospital property that involve hospital staff, visitors, patients and property and prepare and file the appropriate documentation.
5. Physically restrain patients under medical and/or clinical supervision; restrain non-patients whose behavior threatens themselves or others.
6. Perform safety checks. Perform routine checks of fire extinguishers, alarm functioning and parking violations. Write parking citations, work orders and reports as required.
7. Write required reports relating to activities performed in the course of duties.
8. Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate journals, books and other literature and by attending security related seminars, conferences and in-services.
9. Perform motorist assists to SOMC employees, customers, and visitors, such as “jump-starting” vehicles, unlocking vehicles, inflating tires, and giving street directions.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.
